Relationships
Do you find yourself feeling that you are speaking a different language than your partner? Are you struggling to communicate your needs or understand your partner’s needs? Do you worry your partner will not understand your point of view? Do you get frustrated by the needs of your ND partner?
We are here to help. We understand that many issues arise in an interpersonal relationship in which someone is neurodivergent.
Some of the main issues that may arise in a relationship where one is NT and one is ND include:
Communication: ND individuals may have difficulty communicating their needs and wants in a way that NT individuals can understand, which can lead to misunderstandings and conflicts.
Social interaction: ND individuals may have difficulty interpreting social cues and may struggle with the expectations of social interaction, which can cause discomfort and tension in the relationship.
Different ways of processing information: ND individuals may process information differently than NT individuals, which can lead to confusion and frustration when trying to solve problems or make decisions together.
Stress and anxiety: ND individuals may experience higher levels of stress and anxiety, which can be overwhelming for both partners and can strain the relationship.
Stigma and discrimination: ND individuals may face discrimination and stigma from society, which can affect the couple’s self-esteem and overall well-being.
Support: it is important for the NT partner to understand and support the ND partner. As well as, the ND person is also essential to learn how to communicate and express their needs and wants effectively to the NT partner.
